How to promote your new website

It’s time to practice what I have been preaching!

I’ve been encouraging my clients to keep their website up to date and the content fresh consistently. One of the best ways to do that is to write blog posts on regular basis.

Well, I decided it was time to lead by example. What am I going to write about? I’m glad you asked!  Marketing is a moving target and the world of online marketing changes constantly. So I decided to share with you methods, techniques and tactics that I learn. Then, I test  what I experience and my recommendations.

So here we go with the first blog post of 2015: How to promote your new website!

Many of my clients think once their brand new website is launched the phone will start to ring, emails will pour in and people will stand behind the door ready to work with them. Well it doesn’t quite work that way. Just a minute ago I did a quick search on the internet and there were 934,946,705 websites on the internet and the number keeps rising. Guess what? Your website is just one of them. Besides, do you think people know immediately that you have launched a new website? I don’t think so.

The questions is, what do you need to do to let the world know that you have a new website?

Here are 5 quick strategies you could put in action right away:

    1. Put your social media to work – Use your social media platforms to announce your new site. But don’t just post announcing your site and then go away. Stay engaged. Remember this is SOCIAL media! Meaning, you have to be proactive.Twitter is ideal for short, snappy (and tempting) links, whereas Google+ promotion can help your site show up in personalized search results and seems especially effective in B2B niches. If you’re a B2C product company, you might find great traction with image-heavy social sites like Pinterest and Instagram.
    2. Get on YouTube – If you’re not on YouTube, then be there! YouTube drives the most engaged traffic out of all social media sites, with an average of 2.99 pages per visit.
    3. Start a Facebook group – Start a niche-specific group where members can ask questions and get support. Don’t forget to point them back to your site’s content where relevant.
    4. Make the most of Facebook links – Be sure to include links back to your site in your About page, in your photo descriptions, in the comments of your posts (where relevant), and in your milestones.
    5. Don’t Neglect Email Marketing – So many businesses are focused on attracting new customers through content marketing that they forget about more traditional methods. Email marketing can be a powerful tool. Even a moderately successful email blast can result in a significant increase in traffic.Just be careful not to bombard people with relentless emails about every single update in your business. Also, don’t overlook the power of word of mouth marketing, especially from people who are already enjoying your products or services. A friendly email reminder about a new service or product, your new website can help you boost your traffic too.
    6. Advertise – Paid search, social media advertising and display advertising are all excellent ways of attracting visitors, building your brand and getting your site in front of people.

If time or budget doesn’t allow doing all of the above, pick one or two methods and do them well. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. Marketing takes time, stay with it and be consistent.  I guarantee you’ll see results pretty soon. It worked for me.
